The 10-42 K9 Search & Rescue Team exists as a limited mutual aid and disaster support resource designed to assist during times of emergency, major incidents, and regional or national disasters when additional specialized K9 resources may be needed.
Our team is not intended to function as a large-scale standalone Search & Rescue organization. The primary mission of 10-42 K9 remains focused on evaluating, retraining, and placing former military, law enforcement, and working dogs into qualified service-oriented roles — particularly Search & Rescue and related operational environments.
However, given our extensive background within the working dog community, emergency management, and operational K9 disciplines, we maintain a small in-house Search & Rescue capability that may be available to assist partner agencies, established SAR teams, emergency management organizations, and public safety entities when requested.

The mission of the 10-42 K9 Search & Rescue Team is to:
• Support mutual aid operations during emergencies and disasters
• Maintain professionally trained K9 and handler resources
• Promote operational readiness and responsible deployment standards
• Assist established agencies and SAR organizations when requested
• Continue advancing the professional standards of working dog operations
At 10-42 K9, we believe Search & Rescue should be approached professionally, responsibly, and with operational integrity.
All members of our Search & Rescue Team are members of the National Association For Search And Rescue (NASAR).
Our handlers and K9 teams train continuously in areas related to:
• Wilderness Search & Rescue
• Disaster response operations
• K9 search operations
• Incident Command System (ICS) principles
• Emergency communications and coordination
• Operational safety and deployment readiness
Our organization places a strong emphasis on:
✔️ Professionalism
✔️ Continuing education
✔️ Certification standards
✔️ Operational readiness
✔️ Interagency cooperation
10-42 K9 maintains this capability primarily to support:
• Local and regional mutual aid efforts
• Disaster response operations
• Missing person incidents
• Public safety support missions
• Specialized K9 resource requests
We recognize and respect the important role established Search & Rescue teams, emergency management agencies, law enforcement agencies, and fire/rescue organizations play within the emergency response system.
Our goal is not to replace those organizations — but rather to provide additional support and specialized working dog resources when needed.
What makes 10-42 K9 unique is our focus on giving former working dogs a second operational purpose.
Many of the dogs within our program come from military, law enforcement, or other high-drive operational backgrounds. Through evaluation, retraining, and structured placement, these dogs are provided an opportunity to continue serving their communities in meaningful ways.
For us, Search & Rescue is more than training. It is about preserving purpose, honoring service, and building a future where exceptional working dogs continue making a difference long after their original mission ends.
We welcome opportunities to collaborate with:
• Search & Rescue organizations
• Emergency management agencies
• Public safety partners
• Working dog professionals
• Qualified handlers and trainers
• Community organizations
